ENG-TL based Two-Element Diversity Antenna with Metasurface Shielding for High Isolation

This work presents a new and compact two-element diversity antenna based on an epsilon negative (ENG) transmission line (TL) operating at 4.87 GHz. The intended single antenna offers a miniaturized size of 24 × 24 × 1.6 mm

and circular polarization (CP) radiation due to the orthogonallv aligned ENG-TL based radiators. The antenna provides higher isolation ranging from 27–64 dB for the complete operating band due to the placement of a split-ring resonator (SRR) based metasurface wall between the single radiator antennas, which act like an effective electromagnetic shield between the two antennas. The diversity antenna provides an axial ratio less than 3 dB for θ = ± 65° and ϕ = 0° to 360° at 4.87 GHz. The antenna provides a maximum gain of antenna 2 dBi with excellent directional radiation Performance.
