Landmark Effects on RF-induced Heating for Patients with Artificial Shoulder at 1.5 T MRI

The effect of imaging landmark on the RF-induced heating of an artificial shoulder at 1.5 T MRI is numerically investigated in this study. Imaging landmarks from the top of the head to the bottom of the leg are considered for the virtual adult male model. The incident field at the shoulder region is higher when the patient is being imaged for the lower body regions. Considering all these landmarks, the peak-spatial 1 g averaged specific absorption rate (SAR
1g
) around the metallic artificial shoulder occurs when a lower back region is being imaged. The SAR
1g
for the lower back imaging landmark is more than 1.5 times higher than that for the shoulder landmark. Additionally, the hotspot location around the artificial shoulder is also affected by the landmark.
