A Miniaturized Wideband Filtering Metasurface Antenna with Improved Frequency Selectivity

A miniaturized wideband filtering antenna based on metasurface is presented. The proposed filtering antenna contains a 3 × 3 dual-layer metasurface with offset shorting vias, and a suspended dipole. Two radiation nulls are generated in the stopbands. The filtering antenna shows an impedance bandwidth of 19% and a compact size of 0.54λ

is the free-space wavelength at center frequency). The stable in-band realized gain is about 7.3 dBi. This filtering antenna exhibits compact size, low profile, and improved frequency selectivity at band-edges. It can be used in compact multiband antenna array to reduce the mutual coupling.
