Near-Field Gain Evaluation of Balanced Dipole Antenna Operated in Salt Water Using a Power Amplifier

With the expected spread of information terminals using the 5G frequency band, conformity assessment based on specific absorption rate (SAR) in addition to power density is becoming an international standard as an assessment method to ensure the safety of electromagnetic waves to the human body. This also makes it necessary to extend the SAR-based evaluation test to Sub-6, the frequency band of 5G. In this paper, we experimentally confirm that the calibration method developed by the authors for SAR probes, which uses the nearfield gain of a reference antenna operating in a liquid equivalent to tissue, is applicable to frequencies up to 4 GHz.
