Compact Beam Steering Antenna based on Multiple Yagi-Uda Elements

A novel pattern reconfigurable antenna geometry that alters between four possible states in order to collect RF energy around it is introduced in this paper. Planar Yagi-Uda elements are combined in a single patch antenna to beam steer at different angles with a large coverage over the azimuth plane. The antenna operates in a large range of frequencies and resonates at a frequency of 2.44 GHz with a maximum dimension of 0.55 lambda while having a front-to-back ratio greater than 10 dB. The simulated results show that it has a peak gain of 3.05 dBi. The proposed antenna design has been adapted to be integrated into IoT applications.
