4-Bit R-2R DAC in 18nm FinFET Technology

All processors require the conversion of signals from Digital to Analog or vice versa for performing various operations. Therefore, it is crucial to have a fast and efficient Digital to Analog converter to augment the performance of the processor. This paper presents a fast, area-efficient low-power consuming design of a 4-Bit R-2R Digital to Analog Converter. The schematic and the layout of the DAC are done in 18nm FinFET technology. The functionality of the DAC is verified by performing the transient simulations. The Layout Versus Schematic (LVS) tool is used to check the functional equivalence between layout and schematic. Design Rule Check (DRC) tool is used to corroborate that the designed layout meets all the Foundry rules. Transient analysis of the Op-amp and the DAC is performed with the help of test circuits and the waveforms were observed. The power consumption of the designed DAC is observed to be 3.21489 mW for an operating frequency of 10 MHz.
