Implementation of Closed Loop V/Hz Control of Induction Motor Drive Using Tms320F28035 and Altair sT Embed

Induction motors are often attributed as the work horses of industries. Even though a wide variety of control techniques are available to control an induction motor, for most of the applications a simple V/Hz control is more than sufficient. This paper presents the implementation details of closed loop V/Hz control of induction motor drive which is controlled by TMS320F28035 DSP. Motor control peripherals of the DSP such as enhanced pulse width modulation module, quadrature pulse width module and analog-digital converters along with appropriate power electronic converters were employed to implement the control. The embedded C program corresponding to the control algorithm was generated using Altair sT Embed software. The experimental results indicate that the closed loop controller was able to run the induction motor according to the reference speed set by the user. A soft start capability has also been added to the control algorithm to alleviate any issues due to the high starting current.
