Engineering a Functional and Affordable 3D Printed Prosthetic Hand

Humans can lose limbs through disease, infection, or injury-although, obtaining a prosthesis allows affected individuals to lead normal lives. However, prostheses are expensive and, thus, out of reach for many families. This project aims to engineer a functional 3D printed prosthetic hand that the general population can afford. The design was constructed and simulated in computer-aided-design (CAD) software. After determining that the proposed design satisfied the criteria, further studies were conducted to determine a material and part composition that would yield a high degree of functionality and durability while maintaining an affordable price.
