Detection of Pressure Points on the Residual Limb in Transtibial Amputation Using Thermal Imaging

Rehabilitation of people with amputation involves providing a prosthetic limb so as to improve the quality of life. In transtibial (below knee amputation) amputation, the fitting of prosthesis is of essential importance since the residual limb has to support the body’s weight. Improper fitting would lead to formation of wounds and callous. Conventionally, pressure mapping is done to assess the fitting of the prosthesis, which is a cumbersome, inconvenient and costly process. In this paper, IR thermal imaging, which is a non-invasive, non-radiating and quick technique, is used to assess the fitting of the prosthesis.
