Renewable Microgrids with Economic and Environmental Benefits: A Review

Renewable energy, particularly wind and solar energy has gained significant attention in the last two decades due to the intense need to curb carbon footprint. With the advent of microgrids, it has become possible to increase renewable energy share in the global electricity market with improved grid resilience by integrating a suitable storage system. A renewable energy integrated microgrid can be segmented to offer three propositional values to the electricity market: reliability, cost savings and environmental benefits. The paper presents a review of noteworthy research done in this direction during the last ten years.
