Analysis of Air Gap Inductance and its effects on torque profile of Switched Reluctance Motor

Switched Reluctance Motor is a double salient machine having inward projecting pole structure on stator and outward projecting pole structure on rotor for an inner rotor construction. Due to saliency on both stator and rotor, the SRM possess non uniform distribution of air gap and hence non uniform distribution of air gap flux around its periphery. Analysis of parameters related to pole structure of SRM becomes necessary due to this non uniformity in the air gap flux because it has considerable effects on the performance of machines. This paper analyses the pole structure of SRM and its effects on overall performance of machine. The objective of this study is to lower the torque ripple while maintaining the rest of the other parameters at the desirable tolerance range. An 8/6 pole SRM model has been designed and simulated using Ansys Maxwell software. 3D Finite Element Analysis has been carried out for better accuracy.
