1D Dynamic Thermal Model Development for a Battery Hybrid Thermal Management System

Electro-mobility boost is leading to new technologies research for battery thermal management. These systems' thermal models and their integration on the whole electric vehicle modelling requires low computationally demanding but precise enough approaches. This work developed a dynamic 1D thermal model of a battery hybrid thermal management system, with both active and passive cooling. However, for correct calibration of the heat transfer dynamics, a 3D CFD model was also created. This enabled adjustment of the necessary model characteristics and obtaining a simplified but reliable model. Finally, the unidimensional model was verified by result comparison under a real drive cycle profile. Results show high accuracy for the 1D model with negligible error and a considerable simulation time reduction.
