High-Gain Non-isolated DC-DC Partial-Power Converter for Automotive Applications

This paper presents a Partial-Power processing architecture for automotive applications. The control of the charge-discharge current in a battery energy storage system (BESS), the current injection to the grid (V2G), or the power transfer from vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), are some examples of automotive applications where a bidirectional high-gain non-isolated DC-DC converter is required. The purpose of the Partial-Power topology has been to improve the overall efficiency while reducing power losses relative to the Full-Power converter. This architecture has some advantages over traditional topology such as high power density, small size, stress reduction of semiconductor devices, or low cost since the converter only processes a fraction of the total power. Finally, thanks to its modular structure, the basic cells can be connected in series to achieve a very large transfer gain. The effectiveness of the strategy has been validated by the Matlab/Simulink software simulation.
