Parameterized Cloud-Connected Electro-Thermal Modelling of a Battery Electric Vehicle

In automotive industries, virtual vehicle platforms are gaining priority during the early development phases to define the component sizing and optimize several control strategies. However, a detailed modelling approach including electrical and thermal behaviours for cloud-connected battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is missing in the literature. The aim of this paper is to present a parameterized connected electro-thermal modelling of the BEV. The proposed virtual simulation framework is essential for developing and testing advanced and smart charging, energy and thermal management strategies before performing expensive and time-consuming physical tests. Furthermore, the flexible parameterization allows optimal sizing of powertrain components and supports the system design in the early design and development phases. The parameterized cloud connected BEV modelling is carried out using MATLAB/Simulink® software. This connected BEV simulation platform is prepared as a part of the H2020 EU project called CEVOLVER, and the simulation results are verified with the results found in the literature.
