2D finite element model of the Audi e-Tron induction motor

Audi is one of the most iconic representatives of the premium electric vehicle on the market. For their flagship vehicle, the Audi e-Tron, they made the less common choice to use a squirrel cage induction machine. Thus, the paper presents a 2D finite element model of the Audi e-Tron electric motor series and reviews its performances and design choices. The numerical model is created using Altair FluxMotor™ software after having gathered the main data on this machine. After validating the model by comparing simulation results with theoretical performances, the performance maps are established. Some examples of technical studies that can be carried out using this model are presented. Although this 2D model is still perfectible, it is well representative of the performance of the real motor and useful for further simulations.
