Fuel Cell Propulsion Control System Based On PID Approaches

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have received widespread attentiveness in several civil and military fields. The implementation of ecological surveillance and scanning applications has very specific limitations in terms of energy, cost, weight, and flight durability. Drones can be used for the rapid delivery of any and supplies. But, due to the limited flight time of battery-powered electric drones in air transportation, this paper aims to propose firstly the development of a sustainable power system for long-flight drone propulsion applications. Generally, the use of Jacobian linearization in the entire Taylor series expansion at the nominal operating point does not achieve satisfactory dynamic performance under sudden load changes. Therefore, the research methodology is based on nonlinear dynamic models that have been developed for fuel cell, lithium-ion battery, the structure of the buck converter, and the controller. The proposed system is designed and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink software. The findings show that the Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controller can be proposed to transform the stack voltage to standard DC for satisfactory transient operation, the PID controller can be adjusted through the gradient descend multi-parameter optimization technology, and the simulation results show that the hybrid mixture of hydrogen fuel cell and lithium-ion battery can verify the ability of the designed system to meet the long endurance UAV power requirements, and keep the output voltage constant in the case of sudden load changes.
