Estimating Residential Electricity Consumption for Appliance Use: A Statistical Model Approach

One of the primary difficulties coming from the roll-out of demand response in several developing nations is how the data collected from customers has been used to assist them by giving critical information on energy-saving recommendations, which is one of the demand side management concepts. To accurately breakdown an individual's electricity use based on their own input into regression models using established statistical techniques, this study investigated the possibility for demand side management to minimize home load. A study of one to six-person households was conducted to ascertain user behaviors within the home, particularly the usage of appliances, and the extent to which consumer behavior influences demand. The average annual electricity uses for the 15 appliances used from the dataset, as well as the daily electricity consumption of the appliances, were selected for assessing the potential for behavior modification. The derived results show that Refrigerators use the most energy on average, with an average daily consumption of 0.89 kWh per day, as shown by the 120 refrigerators in the dataset. With a mean daily electricity use of 0.09 kWh, radios have the lowest average daily consumption. Refrigerators use the most energy on average per day, with a mean of 1.82 kWh per day, using the dataset of 120 refrigerators. This concludes with dryers, which use a mean of 1.29 kWh of electricity per day, extracted from the 42 dryers in the dataset. The findings show the spectrum of daily average electricity use for all appliance types. The findings show that dishwashers consume on average 5.65 kWh of electricity daily, with the maximum found in the dataset being 0.21 kWh (the lowest observed).
