Transient Performance of Loss Reduction Strategy for Power Cables Installed on the Bridge

Power cables installed on the bridge are a promising solution for the marine power transmission system. Applying the power loss reduction strategy is important to improve the performance of the cable line. In this paper, an accurate model of the cable installed underneath a bridge is proposed using the vector fitting algorithm. The transient simulation under the lighting strike fault is carried to analyze the performance of loss reduction strategy for the 220 kV cable line installed on Zhoudai Bridge. The results show that, the maximum peak overvoltage of the cable sheath without applying the loss reduction strategy appears at the point which is closest to the fault point of the cable line with amplitude of 9.8 kV. The transient performance of series resistance is the best under the same impedance value while the transient performance of series reactance is the worst.
