Study of chemical ablation mechanism of carbon composites through static heating experiment method

Oxidation ablation will bring mass loss and change the mechanical property of the material. With the rapid development of simulation analysis method, one key problem is to predict the anti-ablation characteristics and failure mode under high temperature of heating conditions. However, many significant technical methods have difficulties in predicting the ablation temperature and structural response due to the complex process of composite to high temperature, e.g. multiple diffusion, sublimation and oxidation reaction. Carbon composites have high strength, good thermal and chemical stability, which have been widely used in industry applications. In this work, carbon composites consisted of a three-dimensional orthogonal weave of carbon fibers with additional SiC deposited in the weave were studied in this paper. We carried out an experimental investigation on thermal ablation subjected to static heating condition. We attempt to present the ablation phenomena and laws of samples under temperature over 2000K.
