Effect of low plastic burnishing on hot corrosion property of TA29 alloy

The effect of low plastic burnishing (LPB) on the hot corrosion property of TA29 alloy was investigated. The results showed that nanocrystalline layer was formed on the surface of TA29 alloy after LPB processing. The formation of the nanocrystalline layer promoted the outward diffusion of Al element from the matrix. At the initial stage of hot corrosion, a uniform and compact Al-rich oxide layer can be formed, and the diffusion of O atoms into the matrix was further hindered by the increase of grain boundaries due to grain refinement. With the prolongation of hot corrosion time, the pores of the corrosion product layer on the surface of LPB sample was less and more compact than that of solution aging treatment (SAT) sample. The uniform and compact Al-rich oxide layer and the dense corrosion product layer were beneficial to improve the hot corrosion resistance properties of the materials, and hot corrosion properties of LPB samples were obviously better than that of SAT samples.
