Application of Biobased and Biodegradable Polymers

The shortage of fossil fuel issues and environmental problems have raised serious problems such as white pollutions, depletion of natural resources, and green house effects. These consequences have concerned scientists for decades and thus lead to the development and research of replacing traditional fossil-based plastic. Sustainable polymer, derived from natural renewable resources, is considered to be a suitable substitute because of its biodegradability, biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and economic efficiency. Based on the studies of recent years, a variety of biopolymers are derived and produced industrially for application in real life. They are well known because they can be degraded easily without harming the environment and also the raw feedstock for their production are recyclable and safe to the biosphere. The review article aims to introduce several types of the typical polymer, their raw materials, production process, advantages in comparison with the traditional plastics, and their relevant applied areas nowadays.
