A Transmitting and Receiving Coplanar Distribution Design for Limited Scan Phased Array

This work provides a transmitting and receiving coplanar limited scan phased array distribution. In this array distribution, transmitting array is in the middle, surrounded by the receiving array. Both transmitting and receiving arrays consist of subarrays. The transmitting array has one kind of subarray, while the receiving array has two kinds of subarrays with different sizes, i.e., larger subarrays and smaller subarrays. The receiving smaller subarray has the same contour and size with the transmitting subarray, so the space gap between the transmitting and receiving arrays can be fully utilized and the whole array distribution is compact. The receiving larger subarray has larger aperture size, so the number of radio frequency channels, and then the cost of the whole array can be reduced further. Also, the different sizes of receiving subarrays provide more design freedom, for the limited scan array, to lower the side lobe and suppress the grating lobe.
