A T-BS and a UAV Based IoT enabled D2D Network for Disaster Management

In this paper, we consider a communication network with a temporary base station (T-BS) and an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), which are utilized for organizing communication in a Non-Functional Area (NFA) or disaster area. The NFA is divided into two regions as an inner circle and an outer circle. A network model with inner and outer circle involving Temporary BS (T-BS), UAV, Internet of Thing (IoT) users, cellular users (CUs), and device-to-device (D2D) users is proposed. A T-BS is considered to provide emergency coverage for an IoT user within the inner region. A group of IoT users communicates with an IoT gateway (IoT GW) by reusing cellular users’ resources to enhance spectral efficiency. However, there are some users which are not in the range of the T-BS. Those users can communicate to their desired users by relaying their messages through a UAV (outer region). We develop an analytical framework for evaluating the outage probability for users of inner and outer regions. The overall outage probability is investigated for different SINR threshold values, D2D transmit power, a distance of an IoT user from the IoT GW, and the distance of a D2D user from the UAV.
