Abstract:
Recently, Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) has completed the new Versatile Video Coding (VVC/H.266) standard and screen content coding (SCC) have been supported in VVC to improve the coding efficiency of screen content videos. VVC achieves superior coding efficiency as compared with the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), while its excellent coding performance is at the cost of high computational complexity, which may interfere with the deployment of VVC standard on embedded platforms and live applications. To reduce encoding complexity, we propose an intra coding tool pruning method for reducing complexity of VVC screen content coding. Firstly, coding blocks are classified into complex content block (CCB) and simple content block (SCB) based on support vector machine (SVM). Then, intra coding tools are adaptively pruned based on block type. Finally, the proposed method is implemented into VVC reference software (VTM-11.0). Experimental results show that the proposed method could achieves up to 5.7% encoding time reduction, with no coding efficiency loss averagely under all intra conguration.
