Realization of an SRM with Offset Concept by Mathematical Description

The design of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) with offset concept reduces the torque ripple of the machine. By adapting the magnetic circuit to individual elements and grouping them into segments, an SRM with offset concept can be realized. A built prototype confirms that the use of the offset concept reduces the torque ripple. In this paper, formulas for the geometric design are derived and the set of the design parameters are defined. The formulas describe the geometry of the special offset concept design, so that the geometry parameters can be calculated. This includes the minimum number of rotor teeth, the number of rotor teeth, and the position of each element of all segments over the circumference of the motor.
