A PUF-based Security Authentication Protocol against Desynchronization Attacks

The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system needs to ensure security authentication. Physical Unclonable Functions (PUF) can significantly improve security by increasing a small overhead. It is of practical significance to combine PUF and RFID system to design a lightweight security protocol. Balancing efficiency and security is a problem worthy of study. This paper proposes an improved security authentication protocol based on PUF for resource-constrained IoT devices. The use of hash function, PUF function and XOR logic operation reduces storage and calculation costs while ensuring safety. By adding the time threshold for authentication, desynchronization attacks can be resisted. BAN logic is used to prove the security, and the robustness of this protocol against various attack methods is analyzed. Through comparison with other protocols, the protocol in this paper has a better performance in terms of efficiency and security.
