SRR & CSRR loading on Monopole Antenna for Extreme Wide Band Sub - mm Wave and THz Applications

In this paper, a compact printed monopole antenna is loaded with split ring resonators (SRR) and complementary split ring resonators (CSRR) have been proposed for sub – mm wave and terahertz (THz) applications. Performance of SRR and CSRR loading on monopole are investigated in terms of electrical and far –field characteristics. Proposed models are designed on Rogers RT / Duroid 5880 ™ material having dielectric constant 2.2 and loss tangent 0.0009. Overall geometrical size of designed antennas is 24mm x 18mm x 0.787mm and is simulated using the HFSS tool. Impedance bandwidths (IBW) of designed antennas are 1134.76GHz, 1007.04GHz, 1071.81GHz and 1587.97GHz. Fractional bandwidths (FBW) at resonant frequencies are 174.65%, 173.61%, 174.67% and 182.08% respectively. Corresponding bandwidth ratios (BR) are 14.15, 14.79 and 21.33. The maximum peak gain (G) obtained for the designed antennas is 15.08dBi and radiation efficiency (η) is 99.98%. Designed antennas provide good Omni directional characteristics, group delay (< 2ns) and exhibits circular polarization (CP) at several frequencies.
