A Framework for Multi-Event Data Collection Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Aided Internet of Things in Smart Agriculture

In recent years, the internet of things (IoT) has developed rapidly. By introducing the technologies of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), IoT has become more flexibility, mobility, and scalability. Therefore, UAV aided IoT is widely applied in smart agriculture for collecting the sensing data, especially for the large planting areas. Although IoT has made great progress in energy consumption, battery, and wireless charging, agricultural IoT is still facing the energy limitation and time constraint because of long time work and heavy load. While with the development of precision agriculture and smart agriculture, these new agricultural paradigms require higher information density data. Furthermore, UAV aided agricultural IoT have to pay more attention to the multi-event priority from data collection layer. Therefore, taking into account the different events with different priorities for the collection data in agricultural IoT, our work proposed a multi-event data collection framework with time constraint for unmanned aerial vehicle aided internet of things in smart agriculture. Firstly, the structure of the framework of UAV aided agricultural IoT for data collection is presented. Secondly, based on the event priority the framework working processing is demonstrated. Finally, a flight path planning strategy is given based on priority of event. The proposed framework of UAV aided IoT has great advantages in collecting data with high information value, will promote the progress of some new agricultural modes such as smart agriculture.
