Shura or Consultative Decision Making and its effectiveness in establishing unity, strength and commitment

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of Shura or Consultative decision making in establishing unity, strength and commitment for all the stakeholders. Shura or Consultative decision making has its roots in the Quran and in the Sunnah and it is one of the most effective way to make correct decision. This paper outlines how such Shura or Consultative decision-making process encourages the participation of others where everyone can contribute his or her expertise on any issue in correct decision making and at the same time, everyone feels that they belong to that institution. As a result, this Shura form of decision making unites the hearts and minds of the people and minimizes discord, infighting, and divisions. Shura or consultative decision-making process was practiced successfully and therefore, it is not just theoretical principle rather practical and applied discourse and has tremendous practical value in bringing unity, strength and commitment between the leader and the followers. This is not an imposed decision rather decisions emerge from the people through their Mashuara or consultation process. The consultation process itself is creative and unifying and brings the people together towards success and prosperity.
