ICNET: an Edutainment Web Application for Learning Computer Networks

Computer Networks is an essential subject required in IT-related Bachelor programs in every university. However, teaching by just using slides in the class in most universities is not attractive and cannot bring attentions from a new generation of learners. To solve this problem, educational entertainment or edutainment is introduced. In this project, we design and develop a web application named ICNET that delivers the contents of computer networks subject together with online interactive games for students to learn the lesson, enjoy the game story, and test their knowledge in quiz embedded in the game. ICNET is developed by HTML5 and Unity 2D engine. Our web application focuses on six basic computer network topics including the introduction to computer networks, IP fragmentation, IP addressing, routing algorithms, IP applications, and the application layer. Our web application provides a back-end system for instructors to add questions for keeping contents updated and also provides a web board system to let the learners communicate with the web admin and instructors. After learning, the certificate will be granted to the students who finish all of the lessons in order to encourage them to study more.
