FCS-MPC Applied to Multilevel Hybrid Active Power Filter for Reactive Power and Harmonics Compensation

This article presents the design and implementation of a finite control set model predictive controller applied to a multilevel hybrid active power filter for reactive power and harmonic current compensation. In the proposed technique a multivariable control approach is considered, the references for the reactive power compensation are obtained based on the model of the HAPF and the references for the harmonic components to be mitigated are obtained by a proportional resonant compen-sator. The proposed technique is verified through several tests performed in a laboratory prototype, composed by a 7-level cascaded H-bridge inverter and an LCL filter.
