The Influence of the Organizational Bureaucracy on the Employees' Performance: Evidence from King Hamad University Hospital

Modern public management encounters various challenges associated with the basic principles of traditional public organizations and their bureaucratic systems. This study aims to assess the impact of bureaucratic structures on employee performance in the public health care sector of the Kingdom of Bahrain, reinforce the necessary improvements, and raise the effectiveness of employee performance. This study mainly focuses on the major dimensions of bureaucratic structures: Hierarchization, Centralization, Specialization, Formalization, and Standardization, by exploring their influence on employee performance and examines the challenges brought forward by bureaucratic systems in today's business environment. This study has adopted a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. The researcher has used a questionnaire, and in-depth interviews to gather the data and elicit individuals' views and opinions. The population of this study consists of both administrative and medical employees who are working in King Hamad University Hospital; the sample size consisted of 315 employees that were selected randomly by applying stratified probability sampling technique. Descriptive and inferential statistics are the two types of research methods utilized to analyze the data of this study. The findings indicated that Hierarchization, Centralization, specialization and Formalization have significant impact on employee performance, while work Standardization does not have a significant impact on employee performance. The outcomes of this study may contribute in making further progressions and improvements in organizational structures utilized by health care institutions in the current changeable healthcare industry.
