Energy Efficiency Comparison of the OFDM and FBMC Modulations for Wi-Fi 7 in the Presence of the Complex Nakagami-m Fading

The research studies the comparison of the performance of the Wi-Fi 7 systems employing either orthogonal multiple access (OMA - OFDM) or non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA - FBMC/OQAM) technologies in presence of multipath fading described by the complex Nakagami-m model. The performance was characterized by energy efficiency. An analysis of the impact of channel parameters (i.e. the amount of fading and average fading power) and modulation parameters (constellation size of the quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and the number of subcarriers) was made. Along with lower-order modulations, the performed research assumed the largest possible constellation - 4k-QAM.
