Handover Scheme and Performance Analysis of Improved Chess Board Protocol for High-Speed Maglev Train-Ground Millimeter Wave Communication

High-speed maglev is a type of railway system, its operation and control system (OCS) also relies on the train-ground wireless communication system, which is based on the 38GHz band millimeter wave. As high-speed maglev train can reach up to a higher speed than regular high-speed train, its residence time duration in the coverage area of each ground radio base station (RBS) can be very short, thus, reliable and effective handover scheme between ground RBSs for fast-moving train is needed. In current railway system, there are few train-ground communication systems using millimeter wave band, and there were few studies on millimeter wave based communication protocols. Based on the analysis of the design of high-speed maglev train-ground wireless communication system, in this paper, an improved chess board protocol and a data transmission handover scheme just based on the improved protocol have been proposed to adapt to both ordinary and train passing events, and the effectiveness of the proposed protocol as well as the handover scheme has been verified via simulation.
