Design of a Novel Extremely Wideband Cavity-backed Antenna for sub-6 GHz 5G Communication

This paper presents a novel high gain unidirectional cavity-backed antenna with ultra-wideband capability. The pro-posed antenna is composed of a microstrip fed circular monopole backed by a cavity. The antenna system is specifically designed to target lower 5th generation operating bands ranging from 2 GHz to 12 GHz. This band also covers the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. The antenna geometry has been simulated using Altair FEKO. The antenna exhibits an extremely wide impedance bandwidth of 123% and a peak gain of 12dB at 2.4GHz. The radiation patterns at 2.4 GHz are unidirectional and stable.
