Microcontroller Based Toxic Gases Detection and Forestallment in Automobiles

In this day and age, passenger vehicles are heavily depended on, not only for day-to-day activities but also for leisure facilities. Therefore, safety is an indispensable factor in the Automotive Industry. A vehicle produces toxic gases like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, chlorine, bromine, lead, VOCs (Volatile organic compounds), and nitrous oxide and, in certain situations, get trapped inside the vehicle. This paper designs a device that detects toxic gases inside a vehicle and promptly takes precautionary action by sliding down the window automatically and turning the AC on. An electronic nose is used to detect sundry environmental contaminants like nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. It essentially consists of an information processing unit, digital pattern recognition algorithms, and an electronic sensor array. The results suggest that our newly proposed systemnot only sends an alert via message when toxic gas is detected but also takes necessary action to bring down the toxic level inside the vehicle.
