Impact of Curriculum Change on Outcomes

The industry expectations on engineering institutions are rapidly changing. However, the institutions are supplying resources which is not matching the industry needs. As India being a developing nation with diverse culture, the freedom to higher educational institutions is limited and they are bound to operate by satisfying various regulatory bodies such as University Grants commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the affiliating university. There have been significant changes demanded by all the regulatory institutions to reform the curricula, credits, and teaching methodologies to meet the requirements of outcome-based accreditation. This paper compares the effect of Outcome based education (OBE) with non-OBE on assessment methods, student pass percentage and campus placements with respect to Electronics and Communication engineering students of Kumaraguru college of technology (KCT), Coimbatore India. The results suggest that the changes made in the last few years in the form of regulations, teaching methodologies, assessment methods, and its impact on students performance.
