Induction motors: Early development [History]

It is not too much of an exaggeration to say that the development of the induction motor was the seed that grew into the technological world of today. The induction motor story is also the story of alternating current (ac). Without the induction motor, ac systems may well have died with the arc light, and our world would bear a strong resemblance to a steampunk society.
