A PCIe-based Hardware Acceleration Architecture of the Communication Protocol Stack

With the development of 5G (5th Generation Mobile Communication Technology) communication technology, image transmission is more frequently used in people's work and life. It is important to make the high-speed transmission of video images in communication. This paper proposes a PCIe-based hardware acceleration architecture of the communication protocol stack. In this architecture, the PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect expresses) is integrated into a standard interface for complete the interaction between PC (Personal Computer) and FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array), transferring part of physical layer data processing functions into FPGA for completing the hardware simulation accelerate. The data collected by the camera is used as the user input of the protocol stack to simulate the video images transmission scene. Due to the limitation of experimental conditions, this paper used the OAI (OpenAirInterface) simulation platform to simulate the downlink of the physical layer, and successfully constructed the hardware-accelerated architecture of communication protocol stack under the scene of video and image transmission. This architecture has high realizability and can be used in high-speed data transmission architecture.
