Reliability estimation of Magnetorheological Fluid Brakes for Electrical Vehicles

The study of reliability and longevity of MR brakes is a topic of enormous importance in the automobile industry. A minute failure in the braking system can cause catastrophic consequences. In order to ensure proper safety, the reliability of brakes should be appropriately studied. This research attempts to quantify the MR brake's reliability as a system. MR brakes for vehicular applications have not been implemented yet, despite conducting extensive research and prototype evaluation. Reliability analysis is carried out analytically using exponential distribution, followed by a statistical study performed in MINITAB. A survival probability of approximately 84 percent was observed for the system as part of the study. This work reveals scope for further improvements in MR brake reliability to implement in safety systems.
