Universal Remote using EMG based Gesture Recognition

As the scientific community is moving towards development and automation in multiple disciplines of applied science, such as prosthetics, bio-simulation and reduction of handheld devices, the proposed device will also play a major role in automating the control of daily life appliances in an unconventional and advanced manner. It incorporates Electromyography as its controlling parameter to operate any appliance that works on the principle of Infrared radiation wireless communication. Electromyography deals with capturing electrical impulses from the target muscle. The variation in the intensity of such impulses indicate the state of the muscle which varies for different gestures made by the human arm.This device integrates an Infrared remote controller with an EMG based pattern recognition system for controlling daily appliances at homes, offices or any such space by means of simple custom hand gestures. Protocol for television was implemented and in similar basis, protocols for other appliances like music systems or sound bars, set-top boxes and air conditioners can be integrated into a single compact console with a command system triggered using threshold calibrations and k Nearest Neighbour based classifiers for feature extraction.
