Design of All Optical Universal Gates using 2-D Photonic Crystals

Optical domain is preferred over other conventional networks today because the speed is increased with no interference from electromagnetic signal. Digital gates are used in signal processing of optical network which leads to slowing down of the performance of the circuit as there is a need for electro-optic conversion. Hence the implementation of universal gates completely on optical module using 2D-photonic crystal will improve the performance of the optical network. NAND & NOR gates are designed and in use here through the use of 2D-photonic crystals. All other basic logic gates can be implemented by the use of the universal gate. This paper shows the composition of optical-gates (NAND &NOR) on 2D-photonic crystals. The designing of the gates is done in OptiFDDT software. Contrast ratio is obtained to be 18.66dB dB 16.64 in NAND gate and NOR gate respectively.
