Model Predictive Control Based Economic Operation of Grid-connected DC Microgrid System

Microgrids are becoming a quintessential option due to rapid growth of renewable energy technologies. However, the stochastic nature of renewable energy sources and variable power demand have introduced challenges such as voltage and frequency instabilities, complex power management and inter-action with the utility grid. In this paper, a Model Predictive Control (MPC) based energy management approach is proposed to facilitate stable and economic operation of grid-connected DC microgrids. Case studies are designed to evaluate the stability and economic operation of a DC microgrid under the proposed optimization based control strategy.
