The marine information system uses miniature Diagram-Farming Scheme

The paper considers a miniature diagram-forming circuit, which is obtained through the use of artificial transmission lines. Standard topology of the Butler matrix, and its area is 9947 mm2, this design has a large area not used at all. For this reason, the topology of such a matrix was miniaturized using original artificial lines. The intersection of two microstrip lines is implemented in several layers. The compact Butler matrix on a FR4 substrate and a central frequency of 1000 MHz has an area of 4963.725 mm2. As a result, with the use of cells it was possible to reduce the matrix area by half with a relatively small deterioration in the characteristics of the device - the frequency band decreased and the imbalance between the transmission coefficients increased. An additional reduction in size is possible due to a denser arrangement of elements in the inner space. The proposed scheme can find its application as a power supply for small antenna arrays on board ships.
