Special Parabolic Equation of the Conductor Curve for the Use in Inclined Spans Based on the Given y–coordinate of the Low Point

It is a known fact that in a frame of the parabola based calculation for overhead line design the equation of the conductor curve in a span can be defined if the span length, the coordinates of the support points and the maximum sag are known data. Naturally, as the conductor sag varies with the temperature, thus the conductor curve considerably changes. In other words, each temperature generates another sag and a belonging conductor curve. This is the base of a traditional method used when planning overhead lines. The current paper deals with built lines where the y–coordinate of the low point of the conductor can be defined by the use of special smart cameras or laser devices which are applicable for such a task. A new special equation of the parabolic conductor curve in an inclined span has been shown, which does not contain a maximum sag datum but the y–coordinate of the low point. It is worth mentioning that in the case of an inclined span in the existing line defining the y–coordinate of the low point is a much easier task than defining the maximum sag. The applicability of the new equation has been proved through a suitable practical example with the presentation of the numerical results.
