The Impact of the Sub-circuits Parameters on the Efficiency of a Charge Pump

This paper targets to provide insights into the topic of integrated charge pump DC-DC converters. Concretely, we analyze the impact of the internal sub-blocks’ characteristics on the efficiency of a charge pump converter. The blocks under discussion are the charge pump core, the oscillator, and the bias generator with an operational amplifier. For this purpose, a charge pump converter, able to meet very high values for efficiency - over 80%, was designed in a CMOS technology. SPICE simulations are used to confirm the theoretical design considerations.
