Five-Phase Scalar PWM with Zero Averaged Common-Mode Voltage and its Application to Closed-Loop Current Control

A scalar pulse width modulation (SPWM) method is introduced to a two-level five-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) in this paper. The proposed SPWM method improves the regular SPWM technique to reduce both the magnitude and high-order harmonic component of common-mode voltage (CMV) through the concept of zero averaged CMV within a switching period. Finally, the proposed SPWM strategy is also extended to the closed-loop current control applications and is verified by the simulation and experimental results.
