Power snubber multi-winding adaptive hybrid control for electric locomotive charger

This paper presents a battery charger with power buffer multi-winding adaptive hybrid control (PBMHC) to achieve fast charging and charge balance for a series-connected battery system. The proposed power multi-winding equalization circuit has the features of reduced switching loss, elimination of noise and suppression of current spikes. In addition, the energy is recovered to charge the backup battery pack and a stable control is achieved.The proposed adaptive hybrid control automatically provides power for each battery group according to the voltage difference, so as to realize the most efficient way of fast charging and simple control for the battery charger. The design of a composite CDS snubber can reduce power loss and stabilize system control. Finally, a 240W experimental prototype was used to verify the feasibility of the system. The highest efficiency is 93% for the system with 155 DC voltage input and 10 A charging current.
