The Progress of Terahertz Communication for LEO Satellite

Inter-satellite links provide direct connectivity between two or more satellites. This paper proposes the investigations on performance evaluation of Radio Frequency (RF) signal at 220GHz. Analysis of inter-satellite link budget of two low-orbit satellites. The system uses 100MHz clock reference of the satellite in the local oscillator link, which reduces the phase noise and keeps the frequency stable, and reduces the frequency offset caused by multiple frequency doubling. The TWT amplifier boosts the power of the transmission to more than 5W. Transmit Antenna and receiving antenna gains are 47dB. Solid-state amplifiers are used in the RF link to act as the driver of TWT amplifier. An isolator is added between the solid-state amplifier and the TWT amplifier to prevent the reflected energy from entering the up-conversion through the loop and causing damage to the RF devices. The communication performance of the transceiver system was tested in ground, from the date of the measurement deduced the transmission of terahertz between low-orbit satellites has the characteristics of high speed and long distance in the transmission effect.
