Placement Optimization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Base Stations for Maximal Coverage

The unmanned aerial vehicle base stations (UAV-BSs) networking is a potential solution in emergency communication and temporary mission scenarios. The current study is relatively adequate for the placement of a single UAV-BS, but the placement of multiple UAV-BSs is still an open issue. This paper proposes four nonlinear constrained optimization models for the placement problem of single or multiple UAV-BS(s) under varied coverage scenarios, which can maximize the number of covered user terminals and minimize the required transmit power. To solve these models, a general solution framework based on genetic algorithm is proposed with low time complexity. Finally, the method is verified by simulation.
